Addressing High Blood Pressure

More and more people are finding out at their pharmacy or doctor that their blood pressure is, "a little 'too high', or “boarderline,” etc. The fact of the matter is that “borderline” high blood pressure is now one of the most widespread conditions in the world, especially in Westernized societies. Accordingly, it is no wonder that the World Health Organization has indicated, based on large scale studies, that blood pressure values should be monitored and that those who are at high risk require careful vigilance.

Pressure values off from the standard should never be underestimated as they have been corollated to more serious problems. Processed foods, smoking, alcohol use, sedentary lifestyle and lack of rest are among the major causes of elevated blood pressure, particularly systolic pressure, which indicates the force exerted by the blood on the walls of arteries as the heart contracts. Diastolic pressure refers to the force exerted when the heart relaxes in order to re-fill with blood, before its next contraction.

What pressure values are defined as normal? Currently, normal blood pressure should be at or below 130/85 mmHg. Between 135/85 mmHg to 140/90-95 mm Hg is defined as borderline, and preventative measures are suggested to be taken. In contrast, values above 140-160/90-95 mmHg are considered truly hypertensive. With borderline high blood pressure, it may be enough to make lifestyle changes such as losing weight, limiting salt intake, reducing alcohol consumption and ensuring adequate physical activity. On the advice of your doctor, the use of natural products based on herbs such as olive and hawthorn, which have long been recognized by the medical world as the best natural remedies to keep blood pressure in check, may be implemented
